Endometriosis Awareness Month 2022

1 In 10 Women Suffer From Endometriosis.🎗

Many women suffer in silence from endometriosis (en-doe-me-tree-O-sis).

Because it is an invisible chronic illness with varying symptoms, most endo sufferers are initially misdiagnosed for years and incorrectly diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

The cause of endometriosis is unknown. There are very few treatments, and there is currently no cure for endometriosis.

What Is Endometriosis?💛

Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory condition where tissue similar to the womb’s lining (uterus) grows in other places within the body, such as the ovaries, fallopian tubes and bowel. Endometriosis causes scarring, adhesions and possible infertility. Endometriosis can affect women of any age.

Symptoms of endometriosis can include but are not limited to:

  • excruciating cramps
  • lower back pain
  • tummy pains
  • bloating
  • sciatica
  • extreme period pains
  • pain during or after intercourse
  • difficulty getting pregnant
  • constant fatigue
  • depression
  • nausea

Why Is Endometriosis Awareness Month Important?🎗

Worldwide, Endometriosis Awareness Month raises public awareness of:

  • the debilitating condition and its symptoms,
  • its impact on the lives of endo sufferers,
  • healthcare professionals lack of knowledge,
  • endometriosis diagnosis & treatment delays
  • the lack of funding & research
  • limited diagnostic methods & treatments
